The Journal of Transportation & Statistics Needs Authors

 Dear Mr. Martinez

I am writing to you in your role as a committee chairman or section head at TRB.  The Bureau of Transportation Statistics, part of the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Research and Innovative Technology Administration, is reintroducing the Journal of Transportation and Statistics (JT&S), a journal that serves the transportation community by increasing understanding of the role of transportation in society, its function in the economy, and its interactions with the environment.  The issue that we plan to publish during the first quarter of 2013 will focus on transportation safety.   Previous issues of the JT&S can be found at http://www.bts.gov/publications/journal_of_transportation_and_Statistics/ .

In response to an earlier solicitation for submissions to the JT&S we received primarily articles focusing on highway safety.  There were virtually no publishable articles submitted on either rail or transit safety.  We would like the safety issue to be more diverse than simply highway, and hope that it will include at least one article each focused on rail, air, marine, transit, and cross-cutting industry safety issues.  Are you aware of any members of your committee who have unpublished work in one of these areas for which they may be seeking a venue to publish?  If so, we would greatly appreciate it if you could pass along information on our search for submissions to the JT&S.  We would also be very appreciative if you could advise your membership in general of our search for articles for the Journal.

Manuscript guidelines for potential authors can be found at http://www.bts.gov/publications/journal_of_transportation_and_statistics/guidelines.html .  Since we are aiming to get the Safety Issue published within the next  few months, I would ask anybody with an article to submit to contact me as soon as possible to let me know their article and submission plans.

Thank you very much in advance for your help.  If you (or potential authors) have any questions, I can be reached either by email or phone at the address shown below.  Thank you again.
